While there is a solid reasoning behind my husband’s latest “adventure” of applying for a job in Ft. Greely, Alaksa and his “high three” prior to retirement, he is after all 53 years old!

He has the “promotion” and is getting all the necessary gear and vehicle heaters installed in preparation for the next 3-5 years living on base at Ft. Greely to work on the missile Defense Shield.

My husband is a California born and raised person from Sacramento until we moved to North Carolina to be closer our son and grandson in 2002. This move has created a monster coupled with the Discovery Channel shows he watches without fail.

I spent 18 months building our dream home here on 3 acres that I now will be mowing. We have two older Pembroke Welsh Corgis that can not “pass inspection” to go through Canada nor could they tolerate the cold.

Hubby looks at this move as an adventure, I’ll give him Nov. – April to come to his senses. On the brighter side, he is retirement eligible if it becomes unbearable he can simply retire. Right now he is looking at yet another move on this project to Poland!

I feel like someone dropped me in the middle of a Holiday Inn Express commercial! You know the one, right? Where a stranger shows up on the scene and offers advice on about any topic and when asked are you a doctor or whatever fits the scene replies, “No, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.”

I am not buying that watching Man vs. Wild qualifies you in anyway to brave the Alaska winter. Should there not be a warning label on these shows from the Surgeon General or someone to warn people not to try this at home or could adversely affect your health?

On a more serious side my husband is a very dedicated government employee that does possess the knowledge and expertise to work with Boeing the prime contractor to make a difference.

His continued comittment to our marriage and our future in our retirement years has been steadfast over the years. We have friends that question our sanity on this decision. Family that have voiced negative opinions.

My mixed emotions run from “proud” to “furious” right now. Once they settle down I’ll find someone to fill in shipping for the store and join him in the summer.

I support his decision just as he has supported my early retirement, returning to school and starting a business. Afterall, isn’t a good marriage one where the two can still be individuals as well?

Meanwhile, I’ll tune into Lifetime TV’s new program “Army Wives” to gain some pointers on coping skills!
